Why the wrist?
Apple Watch bands sit on the same patch of skin for 12+ hours a day, and most are made entirely of plastic or synthetic materials (fluoroelastomer, silicone, nylon).
Chemicals from plastic can be absorbed through skin.
Researchers showed that plastic-associated chemicals can pass through human skin models. A separate study found PFAS — “forever chemicals” — in smartwatch bands made from fluoroelastomer.
